One of the sample templates that we have been working on for our newly redesigned and newly enhanced features of our website. We hope to finish the reconstruction by January of next year. Kindly bear with us for any inconvenience that the inter-phase might cause you in the process.

Working and discussing on the newly designed and new features of the website. Butch Natividad and Joey Tugung with the web-designer, Danilo “Japo” Rañola, during our meeting at the Tower Inn Business Hotel in Pasay Rd, Manila, last December 13, 2009.

About Our Website
By: Joey Pamaran Tugung (12/21/09)

Beaumont, California --- This is simply to inform you that our website is undergoing some form of a reconstruction. This explains why there are some oddities, or unusual activities, in the front page portion of our website, including some of the menu driven navigation bar. This goes true as well with the difficulties that some of you have been encountering when logging into the site as a registered member.

Please bear with us because we are striving to achieve not only a pleasant looking website but as well as a highly functional, simple and user-friendly site. A website that would fit our needs, and most importantly, one that reflects a mirror-image as to who we are as a Basileño. A website that we can be truly proud of, so to speak.

We must remember that we created this website without any technical expertise. We built it without even knowing the rudiments of web-design and web-making. We just created it for the sake of having one for Basilan and one that would cater to all the Basileños around the world. Meaning, it was simply a gesture of our genuine desire to create a platform, or a perfect venue, that would attempt to reconnect all Basileños around the world and to provide them fresh social updates as well. A kind of “home away from home” environment is what we have aspired for you to have.

In the course of the operation of our website, we have not expected that it will generate a lot of interest and patronage thereof. Proof of that, to date, we have more than 2.5 million hits since the time we have launched this website in February 2007, and to date, we have more than 800 registered members. Indeed, we, the staff of the De Basilan website, are truly inspired by this display of your enthusiasm and compassion for anything and everything about Basilan.

We must also admit that everything did not go smooth and well in our operations. We have experienced certain birth pains and pangs in the course of the interactive discussions that some of us have participated in the general discussions and in the shout box features of our website.  In our midst, some of us have even displayed unprofessionalism and discourteous conduct. Some even abused and misused the liberties that our website has provided. And yet, despite such, we were not perturbed because we knew that this is part of the dynamics of the social culture in the internet highway or cyberspace.

We were also very mindful of the constructive and negative comments that you have shared with us. Since we have considered to meet the end of your bargain, we also hope that you will continuously be a responsible user. Meaning, to act in accordance with the standard and universal etiquettes of website application and utilization.

Again, please bear with us as we go through the motion of inter-phasing, or the process of conversion, into a newly design website.   Understand that our website, from the very beginning, has always been a work in progress. Nothing was final and permanent as we aspired to keep ourselves, relative to our website, well attune with all of your relevant needs.

Finally, we want to tell you that this is not “our” website but “your” website as well. Thus, please treasure it and keep it as if it is yours.

Thank you so much and more power to us. Arriba Basilan!!!

This is one of the sample banner that we are working on. We will make sure that our website is something that everyone would love to visit regularly and stay on.

The idea to create this website in February 2007 and taking time to post articles, with its corresponding pictures, started as a hobby. However, the fountain of my strength and my inspiration to do it with so much joy, compassion and for free came from my children. (L-R): Yen-Yen, Denise, Jako, Jeo, Joey, Yzza, Ynna and Joko. Not in the picture, my eldest son, Jiggy, is with the US Air Force based in Arizona.

Gino Luna (in blue scrub suits), with my children. He came into our life as a blessing from God to my family. At least, I got to work on our website without having much inconvenience when the needs of my children arise.
